Like many rock stars in the ’60s and ’70s, living life to the fullest without consequence was part of their wild lifestyles. But now that it is 2018, many of them are feeling the effects of their younger days.
According to The Mirror, The Who’s Roger Daltrey revealed during a solo show that his hearing has been so severely damaged over the years that he is forced to resort to wearing large in-ear monitors and lip-reading in order to keep up with the music during live shows.
“The trouble with these ear things that I wear is that I am very, very deaf,” Daltrey told the crowd. “And I advise you all – all you rock-and-roll fans – take your fucking earplugs to the gigs.”
Daltrey, 74, isn’t the only member of The Who experiencing hearing issues. Guitarist Pete Townshend also wears a pair of hearing aids.
